My Opinion

After researching the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, I think plastic pollution is one of the biggest problems facing our oceans today. I was surprised to learn how much plastic is floating in the ocean and how it can harm sea animals. Many animals, such as turtles, fish, and seabirds, mistake plastic for food and can become sick or die.In my opinion, people use too much plastic without thinking about where it ends up. Many plastic items are only used once, but they can stay in the environment for hundreds of years. I think this is unfair to wildlife because animals are suffering from a problem that humans created.I also believe that everyone has a responsibility to help solve this problem. Governments and large companies should reduce plastic waste and improve recycling systems, but individuals can help too. Simple actions such as using reusable water bottles, recycling correctly, and avoiding single-use plastics can make a difference. One thing that gave me hope during my research was learning about organisations that are cleaning up the oceans and developing new technology to remove plastic from the water. However, I think preventing pollution is even more important than cleaning it up.
